Polyphemus gorged himself with two of Odysseus' men and finished his meal with some goat's milk. Desperate for help, he calls upon Zeus and in the mean time hatches a clever plan.
Odysseus tricks the cyclops and he becomes drunk with the liquor, eventually passing out cold just enough for the plan to carry out. He is also known to Polyphemus as "Nobody" so that when the beast tries to call for help, Nobody will see a problem because, "Nobody is hurting him"
I shall eat you last in return for your gift of this delicious wine.

Odysseus and his men blind Polyphemus by stabbing him in his eye. Outraged and disabled, he gropes around restlessly with no luck and calls for help. As Odysseus foresaw, nobody came to his aid and instead he waited by the mouth of the cave to capture his human meal. Tying together three goats for each of his men and a ram for himself, they escape the next morning.
