Pardoner's Tale

- The Pardoner begins his tale about the three rioters...He points out that they are sinners, drunkards, and fools. He suggests that those who listen to his tale take stock and pay him so he can pardon their sins and so they will be able to get into heaven. (He makes sure to remind them they must do this every time they see him, so that they remain clean of sin...or so that he remains rich.)
- The rioters meet an old man on their way to kill Death. They harass him and then he sends them off to where he claims to have seen death before. It is at that place where they find barrels of gold coins they decide to take as their own.
- The three rioters' greed has caused them to kill each other over gold. The two older rioters stabbed the youngest. The youngest had poisoned the wine he brought back and after his demise, the remaining rioters drank the wine and died.
