In the year of 1519, Ferdinad Magellan left to his conquest of the Americas with 5 ships and almost 240 men. He and his crew were called Conquistadors, which are Spanish soldiers.
Another conquistador was Hernando Cortes. His Spanish arrival shook the Aztec empire, which dominated most of Mexico. The Aztec Emperor Montezuma believed that Cortes had been sent by the Aztec God to rule Mexico.
It took Cortes a couple of months to reach the Aztec Capital, but when he did the Spaniards tried to escape the capital, and got caught. When they got caught, they broke out into a vicious fight.
In the fight, about 800 of the Spanish and 1,000 of their allies were killed that night. The vicious fight was later known as "La Noche Triste" or The Sad Night. After La Noche Triste all of the colonists were forced to leave, which is now present day Santa Fe.
After the Spanish fleet, they started large plantations and forced Native Americans to work on them. They would sell their crops to Europe, and the Spanish would do nothing but command the Native Americans.
The Spanish treated the Native Americans terribly. Bartolome de Las Casas sought for better treatment of the Native Americans. La Casas later went to Hispaniola in 1502 and took the conquest of Cuba a decade later.
