Storyboard Text

  • You will kill your father and marry your own mother!
  • In the city of Thebes, a king and queen, upon learning of a prophecy foretelling that their son Oedipus would one day kill his father and marry his mother, decided to take drastic measures to prevent this fate from happening. They instructed a trusted servant to pierce Oedipus's ankles and suspend him from a tree by his ankles, thus attempting to thwart the prophecy by ending his life prematurely.
  • The servant didn't want to see the young royal die, especially in this way, so he brought the boy to a shepherd in a city near Thebes, so the boy could live and not murder his father and marry his mother.
  • The shepherd was too poor to take care of the growing child, so he went to the king of Corinth to give him the child. The boy grew up to be a strong man and was later told by a drunk that he was not the son of the King and Queen of Corinth. He later asked another person, who told him of the prophecy that he would kill and father and marry his mother. He was afraid of the future for him and his family, so he ran away to the nearby city of Thebes
  • When he arrived in the city, he was met with an older man and some soldiers and was told to leave. He killed them all and then ran into the city to start a new life. The brother of the Queen proclaimed that whoever rids the city of the Sphynx shall become King and marry the Queen. (Since the King aka Oedipus' dad was killed by Oedipus) He rid of the Sphynx and became King of Thebes and married the Queen (his mother) and having 4 children.
  • After a series of events, the truth was out that the King of Thebes (Oedipus) has married his mother and killed his father and the prophecy has been fulfilled. After Queen Jocasta found of this news, she went to her bedroom and hung herself. Once Oedipus found her he took a pin from her clothes and stabbed his eyes out so he may never see the tragedy he caused.
  • Then he was banished from Thebes, so he left and his daughters, Antigone and Ismene, left with him.THE END
