A 27 year old female was brought into the Emergency Department due to anaphylactic shock. She would occasionally suffer from seasonal allergies, but wasn't aware that she was allergic to bees.
The patients symptoms consisted of hives, severe dyspnea, feeling dizzy, and a weak pulse. The nurse administered oxygen and immediately reported to the crash cart for Epinephrine and Diphenhydramine, but the cart only had Epinephrine.
The nurse realized this was a major problem and could not happen again. Once her patient was doing better, she made it a point to stock the cart and always check the cart to make sure this doesn't happen again.
