- Algernon again talks about marriage and women, but this time he talks to Jack. They come up with a plan to get rid of "Ernest."
- Gwendolen returns and tells "Ernest" that she can not marry him because her mother disapproves. He tells her his address in the country so that she can write to him.
- Algernon writes Jack's address on his shirt cuff while listening to his conversation with Gwendolen. He decides to take a trip to Jack's home in the country.
