- The exposition of this book starts off at Berlin, in Bruno's old house. The house where he loved and had his 3 best friends for life. Although, one afternoon he found Maria going through his things, and packing them. He felt very confused and went to ask his mother.
- Well.. I used to live with my mother and father and my brother Josef, but one day we all got taken away and I've been here every since.

- He finds out that he's actually moving to somewhere out of Berlin. He ends up going to Poland because his father's job.
