First there was nothing Te Kore. From him came night Te PO. There were many night but the last night joined with space. And it cam to be two thoughts called Rangi, sky father and Papa earth mother. They were in love and held each other together tightly so the earth and sky were joined together.
Papa and rangi gave birth to over 100 children some of the children were gods of the sea, forest, war, darkness and wind. But they were trapped between their parents and discussed what they could do. They suggest pushing them apart. But not all of them liked the idea and they fought.
Eventually, they pushed their parents apart for years and years until they were separated. They became the earth and sky as we know it today. The red from rangi became the sunset and the blood from papa became the red clay of earth.

Papa an rangi were so upset that they weren't together they cried and cried. Rangis tears became the oceans and rivers. The mists that rise from the ground is papa sighing with loneliness.
