It was carried by rodents and fleas and was highly contagious, especially in dense cities. They didn't have a good understanding on what they black death was, or on how they could prevent it, all they could do was social distance and quarantine to hopefully slow the spread." - The Doctor

"The Black Death is an extremely harmful yersinia pestis bacteria. Yersenia pestis is a bacteria that causes 3 types of plagues: The Bubonic plague, the Pneumonic plague, and the septicemic plague. You must've caught it from a flea, similar to how people did way back in the medieval times.
