- The three witches choose to meet Macbeth on the heath after the battle is lost and won, before sunset.

- There to meet with Macbeth.
- An injured soldier reports to king Duncan that they have won the battle, and that Macbeth and Banquo fought fiercely and bravely.

- All hail, Macbeth, thou shalt be king hereafter!
- Macbeth and Banquo find the three witches on the heath after the battle and they witches tell them the prophecies that Macbeth shall become a king, as well as thane of Glamis and Cawdor, and Banquo's offspring will also become king. Banquo is wary and sceptical of the prophecies but Macbeth seems excited and eager.
- Thou shalt get kings, thou though be none
- Are ye fantastical, or that indeed which outwardly ye show?
- Stay, you imperfect speakers, tell me more:
- Let not light see my black and deep desires:
- Duncan thanks Macbeth and Banquo, and announces that his oldest son, Malcolm, shall be next in line to be king, this which gets in the way of Macbeth's desire to take over the throne from Duncan
- Malcolm, whom we name hereafter,The prince of Cumberland
- Lady Macbeth receives Macbeth's letter about his prophecy and wants to kill Duncan. She calls to evil spirits and demons and tells Macbeth to put on a strong face and leave everything else to her.
- My dearest love, Duncan comes here to-night.
- Only look up clear;Leave all the rest to me.
- O, never shall sun that morrow see!
- King Duncan arrives at Macbeth's castle. Macbeth decides that it would be too immoral to kill Duncan but then Lady Macbeth arrives and insults his manhood and calls him a coward, this convinces Macbeth to continue with the plan once again.
- We will proceed no further in this business:
- as his host,Who should against his murderer shut the door,Not bear the knife myself
- I am settled,False face must hide what false heart doth know
- When you durst do it, then you were a man;And, to be more than what you were, you wouldBe so much more the man
