- A small revolt is held by Toussaint L´L'Ouverture
- Eventually, Toussaint was able to free some slaves and gained a large following for his beliefs
- By 1798, Toussaint was named leader of the slave rebellion and the revolt was in full force
- In 1803, Napoleon´s army was weakened by yellow fever and nearly wiped out by the Haitians. He decided to retreat back to France and grant Haiti their freedom
