- He was a member of the island group that had gotten separated from the rest of the explorers.

- He built a raft and intended to sail south to Mexico. But he ended up at San Luis Island near Galveston.
- Cabeza de vaca was the first to extensively explore Texas. He encountered friendly natives who gave him food and shelter but ultimately enslaved him. And he enjoyed the natives to be so sweet so he treated them the way they treated him.
- He kept a close eye on land,plants and animals during his time there.
- In 1534 Cabeza de Vaca left Texas and in 1542 he published a report on what he saw. The book led many Spaniards to believe even more in the seven cites of cibola and to search for gold and glory in Texas.
