  • The olive branch petition was an attempt to restore peace between colonists and England. Unfortunately the king rejected it and sent the British Navy to block ports where American ships were located.
  • Battle of Yorktown (1781)
  • The battle of saratoga was smaller battles between Americans and the British. Americans lost every battle but their losses got the attention of other European nations. These nations decided to help Americans fight.
  • Treaty of Paris (1783)
  • France and Spain decide to help Americans fight their common enemy. Both nations provide the Americans with food,supplies, troops and military experience. The french also provided secret aid to Americans.

  • The battle of Yorktown took place around 1781 and was the last major battle of the revolution. Americans were able to defeat the British because they had ran out of powder and Americans bombarded them. After Americans bombarded them the British surrendered.
  • The treaty of Paris was made in 1783. It was a negotiation between Americans, the french, and the British. It officially ended the war and made Americans independent. The boundaries of this treaty were the Mississippi River on the west, Canada on the north, and Spanish Florida on the south
  • After the revolution, Americans were left with a national debt of $27 million. Those who were loyalists lost their property and soldiers who survived had little or no money. Around 25,700 Americans died, 1,400 remained missing, and 8,200 were wounded.
