  • Have you ever wondered what the biggest number ever is? 10? 100? 1000? 10000? 100000? No it isn't. It is called "Googolplex." What is it you may ask? Well it's 10 raised to the power of googol or 10^googol. What is googol you may ask? Lets find out!
  • In 1920, a mathematician named Edward Kasner talked to his 9 year old nephew Milton Sirotta about the biggest number.
  • Milton, what is the biggest number you can think of. Would you like to come up with a name for it?
  • How about 1 followed by 100 zeroes which is 10 to the power of 100 or 10^100. I'll call it googol!
  • However, that is not the biggest number we can think of because we can always add. No worries though! Lets add "plex" to the end of googol and call it "googolplex." Lets make googolplex 10 raised to the power of googol.
  • Great idea!
  • To take that in comparison, there are 7 quintillion. 500 quadrillion grains of sand in the planet, sounds like a lot huh? Well it is, just not on the same level as googol, the number I stated previously was 7005 followed by 17 zeroes! The grains of the sand of planet Earth is not even 25% of googol!
  • If googol is just 10 to the power of 100. Can you imagine how big googolplex is. 10 to the power of googol! Imagine typing 10 to the power of 1 followed by 100 zeroes, your computer would probably crash trying to proccess that information!
  • Although it is still possible to write a bigger number, googolplex is the biggest number ever to be officially thought of and popularized! See you again in Math Made Easy by Cedric Josef Vallestero!
