- Sparticus headed towards the Straight of Messina hoping to cross to Sicily. But a new leader called Crassus, of the Roman forces, was in charge and wanted to kill Sparticus!
- So Marcus Licinius Crassus set up fortifications to attempt to trap and starve Sparticus.
- Sparticus knew he was in trouble so quickly offered Crassus a peace treaty but it was rejected.
- Justice has been restored
- So Sparticus boosted his troops morale (by crucifying a Roman!) and they managed to get past the fortifications by using cavalry to punch through a trench of dead bodies!
- However in April 71 BC Sparticus was eventually killed in his final battle!
- His army disintegrated and those that remained were hunted down by Crassus.
