- Silvey who is 12 years old lives with her family at 45 greys avenue, Auckland, New Zealand. She lives with her parents Ma and Ba (who is mum and dad) Ah yeh, who is Ba’s father and her grandfather, her two brothers, Dai Gor and Day-Day, and the three girls, Soong , Chuen , and Silvey.Silvey is the oldest daughter, her name Silvey is short for Silver Treasure. A war was going on ( world war 2), Because of his Silvey had to move schools and had to have lots of war practice. Her family had a school for her, Beresord street school, Judy her best friend was going to the same school.There was this annoying boy who keeps asking her out.

- Silvey had Chinese school and when she came home she had lots of homework to do. Judy had to go to her uncle’s farm to help out and Silvey was missing her so much. It was salt-fish time again All the salt fish used to come from china but because of the war we had to make our own. Harm-Yue( salt-fish) is very salty that we have to eat a bowl of rice with it because of how salty it is. Ther is a lot of process to making Harm-yue.

- Okey! The olden days was a disaster for the Chinese and that we Chinese weren't welcome and we had to pay poll tax and more.......
- Silvey had an assignment to do about her family in the olden days, Ba gave her lots of information about how it was like i n the olden days and how they had to pay poll tax and stuff.She learned a lot from her assessment. It was New year's eve and the first thing they heard was someone they knew had died.It was very sad. The week after, Mrs Chong had asked Silvey if she could babysit and Silvey did.
