- "Hello everyone! It's Matthew, the big brave soldier, back from the war. Today I am here to tell you about my experience."
- "War doesn't seem that bad... you get to go to new country's, meet new friends, and be proud to serve and protect your country."
- "Honestly, do you think you can call yourself brave when you signed up for it?"
- "Well actually, I had to dial back my emotions and live by the motto, 'One way to maintain discipline is to shoot a man every now and then.' I became numb to the sound of explosion and the sight of death."
- "What was the hardest thing to adapt to during the war then if it was so bad?"
- "While we were in the trenches, the general would come up to each of us soldiers repeating the same question, "Are you ready to kill more Germans?" He would ask. This was to ensure we were all prepared for the battle we were about to encounter."
- "Honestly, the journeys, the labor, and watching those closest to me took time to adjust to. I had to walk through no mans land behind my general in mud and freezing rain. I had to sail through the icy ocean through a storm in a crammed little boat."
- "I feel like you are making it sound worse than it was. It's cool and all that you are back but it seems like these stories are for attention."
- "The most traumatizing event from the entire journey was when my platoon was ambushed by bomber planes and I lost my best friend right in front of my eyes. My friend was a medic, meant to protect others but the last time I saw him, his skin was as grey as stone."
- "Oh, that actually sounds really bad."
- "In the beginning, I was towards the back but then got moved to the front line. I was terrified because most stories I've heard is that when people go to the front line, they don't come back. It was difficult to sleep so when you got a good night, you were lucky. The conditions throughout the war got worse but you learn to accept that it's a blessing to get any sleep at all."
- "As a soldier that has been on the front lines I can assure you it is the most terrifying thing you could experience."
- "That sounds like it takes so much bravery. We are so glad you are finally home!"
