- The story begins with the main character, Greg Heffley, getting a new diary and getting bullied by his older brother, Rodrick Heffley.

- It is then followed by Rodrick throwing a party and making a mess of his house. Rodrick then forces Greg to help him clean the house. At first Greg refuses but he eventually helps clean up. Then he notices someone had vandalized their bathroom door.
- HiRodrick
- The story continues as Greg describes the different antics that his brother gets into. He tries to get his rock band noticed by working in a talent show, he also has his mother record their performance, but it all went wrong. Greg and Rodrick then get into a big fight because Greg didn't record the video. Then at the end of the story Rodrick gets the better of Greg and reveals Greg's embarrassing to the world.
