  • The Cheerleaders- Kara Thomas
  • Setting
  • Protagonist
  • Monica lives in a world where she is trapped within her thoughts, trying to come to a conclusion of the mysterious deaths of The Cheerleaders. Though, the cases have been closed, Monica believes something is missing, and with the help of her new friend Ginny, she can finally put all the pieces together giving herself and others a sense of closure, and eventually let the girls rest easy.
  • Conflict
  • The main setting is at Sunnybrook High Schools computer lab, located in the town of Sunnybrook where 5 cheerleaders were killed 5 years ago. Moving to now, many of the towns people still can't move on, especially Monica, her sister was one of the dead cheerleaders. This is where Monica and Ginny discuss their plans on who to talk with and what they can do to get more information on the random deaths.
  • Plot- Rising Action
  • Monica is the protagonist in this murder mystery novel. She is careful and alert though she can get worried rather easily when her plans don't go as intended. She's smart and sneaky which contributes to the plotting of her plans with the help of Ginny to get in contact with Sunnybrook's' High School students from 5 years ago.
  • Figurative Language- Metaphor
  • The main conflict was when Monica and Ginny realize that Monica's step dad who is a cop might have killed an innocent man. Though, he may have been innocent for this case, he was most certainly not a good man. Most people had assumed he was the killer of 2 of the cheerleaders since he would always be watching the girls and taking pictures of them (stalking). Now, the town may not be safe because the actual killer could still be roaming the streets without anyone knowing.
  • Nearing the end of the book, we come to one of the many rising actions. Brandon (a guy she dated over the summer) comes to Monica's home wanting to explain everything to her, but Monica has already figured out the he was the one who killed the 2 girls the night her dad shot the innocent man. Her willingness to stay away from Brandon since he was a murderer angered him leading him to try and hurt her, which he succeeded at.
  • This house was made for someone without a soul. So I guess that makes sense that my mother wanted it so badly. (Thomas 1) What a way to start the book, am I right? At the beginning, Monica didn't have the best relations with her mother, and she would always act bossy and arrogant towards her, mainly explaining why she might have used this metaphor. If I am being honest, it's like Monica is imagining her nice, new home as a creepy, run down living space that only demons should be in. (This image is not actually what her house looks like)
