  • Yasha the SheepAnonymous
  • Yasha the Sheep is a parody of The Jewish Collective Farm, written by G. Ryklina, ill. S. Boim & B. Sukhanova in 1931, in which Yasha is a Jewish boy who wants to muck with the peasants despite this being forbidden. By the end of the book, Yasha's apples and cucumbers become the envy of his fellow farmers, teaching children both about the value of perseverance and to associate every victory with Joseph Stalin's leadership. Children's books from Soviet Russia provide an accurate representation of political opinions at the time, not only because Stalin wished to brainwash children, but because it was the safest way for more critical writers to spread their opinions.

  • Dawn was breaking as Yasha hauled the cart over the edge of the quarry.
