- Mrs Johnstone is a single mother raising 7 children with 2 more overdue (she doesn't know they're twins yet), she struggles to provide her kids with what they need and listens to them complain from starvation.
- I know it's hard on all you kids, But try and get some sleep. Next week I'll be earnin, We'llhave loads of things to eat,
- Y'can't stop the milk. I need the milk. I'm pregnant.
- The milkman warns Mrs. Johnstone that if she doesn't pay him, he'll have to stop delivering milk to her; she tells him that she'll be earning next week and will pay him because she needs the milk.
- You own me three pounds,seventeen and fourpence an' either you pay up today, like now, or I'll be forced to cut off yourdeliveries.
- It's such a lovely house it's a pleasure toclean it.
- Mrs Johnstone started her job, cleaning Mrs Lyons house and will start earning. The two get to know eachother and start talking about having children; Mrs JOhnstone has 7 and 2 overdue and Mrs Lyons is trying to get one but never did.
- Actually, Mrs J, we bought such a large house for the – for thechildren - we thought children would come along.
- Mrs Johnstone finds out she's due with twins and starts to worry about how she will manage all those kids with the welfare already being on to her.
- With one more baby we could havemanaged. But not with two. The welfare have already been on to me.
- You'reexpecting twins. Congratulations.
- What... but I don't know if I want to give one away.
- Mrs Lyons proposes her idea of taking one of the twins and raising it and calling it herself's however, Mrs Johnstone is shocked and unsure of what to do; she can't handle 9 kids with the welfare alreayd being on to her but she doesn't want to give one of her babies away.
- Give one of them to me!
- Ah he's lovely.
- Edward arrives and Mrs Johnstone surprises her husband, however, Mrs Lyons is annoyed and jealous of the attention Mrs.J gives Edward and makes the desicion to fire her
- Darling, don't be hard on the woman.
- She's always fussing over him, Richard, I thinkshe should go.
