- Edward fights many battles in Palestine, in one of which Cheevers dies. Also while he is in Palestine, he finds out that Emily had been killed in a bombing.
- In one battle Edward gets injured and he is no longer able to continue fighting and has to be sent back home.
- On his way home, the war ends. Eventually Edward arrives back home an reunites with his father and his town.
