- Hi Mr. Lehna! My name is Ramona Parish, and I wrote Message from a Welfare Mom about raising my three children while receiving AFDC and what I'd like people to understand about government aid recipients.

- Government assistance programs are flawed and often have unrealistic expectations for recipients and what they're able to accomplish through the programs
- They sent me to a halfway house with a limit on how long I could stay and expected me to attend their Job Shop events, which had inaccurate information about job opportunities and did not provide me with adequate resources for housing after my time was at the halfway house, leaving me to figure things out on my own

- Oh wow, that must have been difficult! I can relate, I received government aid such as medicare, EBT, and housing vouchers, but the income threshold requirements meant that I could not work full time without losing my benefits. But, I also couldn't afford to live on the full time wage without the additional assistance from the government, so it was a real catch-22 situation that left me in a limbo. Strangers judged me and assumed I chose not to work, when the reality is that I wanted to work and simply couldn't because of the systems in place.
