  • What's that?
  • Yeah, I got one from...AUGUST. We were fighting last week and yesterday he gave me a flash drive that he said was from the boss. But that's on my computer at work. How would that affect me at home?
  • It's possible he may have given you a network traveling worm.
  • A worm is a form of malware that copies itself on a device and spreads itself around, whether through things like links in emails or even a network. They usually carry harmful programs called "payloads" that can do damage to your computer. They may even just copy themselves over and over to slow your computer down.
  • Well I'll give it to IT tomorrow, but besides avoiding August, how can I avoid this in the future?
  • Network traveling worms are worms that spread through a network like WiFi. It's likely you opened a file on your computer carrying the worm, and saved it to an online drive that you accessed with your laptop. This could cause the worm to spread through your network.
  • Grandma Wilhema...your Control and V keys were stuck down.
  • Prevention is best, so be cautious when opening links, clicking pop-ups, or email attachments. Follow software updates regularly, as they fix exploits that worms could use.  If your device is infected with a network worm, isolate it quickly and assess the damage. Antivirus tools and worm removal tools are available, and you can even look up some on the internet. On a separate device obviously. Obviously.
  • Watch your tone boy, or I'll slap you again.
  • I'm more confused about how August knew how to make a worm. He's not the brightest light bulb if you catch my drift.
  • But, Grandma Wilhema, this doesn't seem like a worm, because its replicating pretty slowly, and it seems to stop after each replication. Wait a minute...
  • *Silence ensues
