So it all starts when two things called tectonic plates that are a layer on top of the earth's crust collide which is called a convergent boundary, and there are two types of tectonic plates, continental and oceanic. The plates could collide in a continental/continental way, or an oceanic/oceanic, and it can also be a continental/oceanic way, and in this case a continental/oceanic convergent boundary happened, and when that happens the continental plate lifts up the oceanic plate which made a volcano erupt underwater.

Yeah, a volcano. And that volcano creates an earthquake, and that's why an earthquake happened. But before the earthquake happened the volcano caused the water to pull back slowly, and then after the earthquake, the water pulled back faster and faster. Then with force the water shoots back front all of a sudden, and that water is a tsunami being created.
