Rising action: The Germans arrive
Elie and his family are happily living in Sighet. Elie is training with Moishe for the Kabbalah.
Moishe the beadle gets kicked out for being a foreigner. He hops on a train when the Germans stop him and start killing the Jews, Moishe escapes and starts warning everyone that they are coming.
The Germans arrive, they put everyone in ghettos, and families get separated. They get brought into concentration camps and get tortured. People get killed, sick, and shaved. People fight for food and lose their reasons to live.
