David was the youngest of eight brothers and worked as a shepherd. He spent most of his time watching over the sheep play and feed on the grass.
While some of his brothers were at Israeli army preparing for war against the Philistines.
One day, David was taking food to his brothers as his father asked him too. However, when he got there, his brothers accused him of coming so that he could watch the fight instead of watching the sheep.
David forgave his brothers for he knew that they were wrong. Whilst David was there, he saw a giant man over 9 feet tall! His name was Goliath and he definitely did not want to lose the war. David was told that every day Goliath would come asking to fight someone but no one was brave enough to step up. David did not like that Goliath was intimidating the Israelites as they were God's family. This reminded David that if God was with them, they should always have courage to stand up against those who are evil.
So David said to the King, "I will fight against him!" The Kind thought that he was a bit small to fight Goliath but no one else was willing to fight. So he allowed David to do so. David knew he wasn't very strong but he had God on his side. The king offered to give him armor and weapons but they didn't fit so he decided to fight in his regular clothing. He had trust in God that he would be able to defeat Goliath with his slingshot and rocks.
David fought against Goliath and David threw a rock right in between Goliath's eyes. Goliath hit the ground, unconscious. No one could believe it! David then took Goliath's sword and chopped off his head. God had helped David, an average boy, to defeat evil and rescue his people. This is the story of David and Goliath.
