- Manuel is a fifth grader now, and he signed up for a talent show. He is singing to La Bamba in the talent show. However, he had second thoughts on signing up. Manuel thinks that he is going to mess up and fail. But, he has confidence that he will do great. He is making it a surprise to his family.
- "Oh no, my record!"
- "Sorry Manuel!"
- Manuel is going to rehearsals thinking of all the other talents. When he got there and started listening Benny (Manuel's friend) is playing the trumpet, and he blew so loud that Manuel dropped his record! At least, the record did not break! After school he went home did the dishes and a lot of homework. Manuel really wanted to practice his song, but he didn't have time. So, he had to practice in the shower.
- The day went by so fast! Afternoon chores and dinner too. Then the talent show began. The first act was so dumb, it was a toothbrush and a dirty tooth singing. I was sweating like crazy! I was so scared. It was my turn next. So I went up there and the song was so good until the song started to skip on and on. Everybody laughed. I was so embarrassed! After that, it was all good. Everybody, at least, clapped when it was over. I was talking to a lot of family and friends. Everybody said it happens so I felt a lot better. That was the best talent show I have ever had!
- My opinion on this story would be that this story was it was great because the story was about a great and famous singer. I have heard this song before and I would never have known that this class would be reading a story kind of about a famous singer. I also thought this story was great because I like to read about songs in books. This book told me and other classmates that you can be in any kind of show or social event. If you mess up or something goes wrong you just tell yourself that you gave your best effort. I just loved this book because it was a really good story to read. The picture shown is one of my favorite scenes, which is when they are at rehearsals.
