  • THE HELIOCENTRIC THEORY(1543)
  • Planets orbit around the Sun!
  • Galileo Galilei Publishes Messenger Of The Heaven(1610)
  • Nicolaus Copernicus Publishes De Revolutionibus Orbium Coelestium. De Revolutionibus is credited with proposing the heliocentric idea, which states that the Earth revolves around the Sun rather than the other way around. According to Copernicus, the cosmos is divided into eight spheres. The outermost stars were stationary and fixed, while the Sun was unmoving in the center. Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn were the known planets that rotated around the Sun, each in its sphere.
  • Galileo Publishes Messenger Of The Heavens describes his telescopic observations of the moon's surface, and of Jupiter's moons. The Church was disturbed by Galileo's 24-page pamphlet, which described his telescopic observations of the moon's surface and Jupiter's moons. Galileo is warned by the Inquisition to stop disseminating his beliefs.
  • Galileo's magnum opus employs physical rules to dispute Aristotle's claim that the Earth is the solar system's center and to defend the heliocentric Copernican perspective. Galileo introduces the theory of uniformity, which states that the principles of terrestrial physics are identical to those of celestial physics.
  • Rene Descartes Publishes His Discourse On Method. Descartes' work lays forth the principles of deductive reasoning, which are still utilized in modern science. Rene Descartes Publishes Geometry which discusses how motion may be represented as a curve and a graph, defined by its relation to planes of reference.
  • As well as being the father of microbiology, van Leeuwenhoek laid the foundations of plant anatomy and became an expert on animal reproduction. He discovered blood cells and microscopic nematodes, and studied the structure of wood and crystals. He also made over 500 microscopes to view specific objects.
  • Isaac Newton Publishes Philosophia Naturalis Principia Mathematica. The Principia lays forth Newton's comprehensive model of the world as structured according to the law of universal gravity, and is perhaps the most influential event in the history of science. The Principia is Newton's synthesis of the works of all the great astronomers who came before him, and it is still the foundation of contemporary physics and astronomy.
