Tasha: Our school should add a required financial literacy class. A lot of students graduate without knowing about credit cards, loans, or taxes.
Miguel: I don’t think we should listen to that idea, especially since it came from Mr. Harris. He’s been divorced twice, so clearly he’s bad at life decisions.
Tasha: What does his divorce have anything to do with teaching students about money?
Miguel: Because, if he can’t manage his personal life, he probably can’t give good advice about finances either.

Tasha: That’s an ad hominem attack. You’re dismissing the proposal by attacking Mr. Harris as a person instead of looking at the reasons for the class.
Miguel: But it shows he’s not a good role model.
Tasha: Even if you think that, it doesn’t prove that his argument is wrong. He’s saying students need knowledge about budgeting, saving, and avoiding debt, basically how to manage your finances so you don't end up poor lol. His relationship history doesn’t change whether that knowledge is useful.
Miguel: It still makes me doubt him.

Tasha: Well look at it this way. Imagine a doctor says, “wash your hands to prevent illness,” and someone replies, “Ignore that advice, the doctor has a messy desk.” A messy desk wouldn’t mean she doesn't wash her hands does it.
Miguel: Yeah, that wouldn’t make any sense.
