On a dark and stormy night, the White family relaxes at home while waiting for Sergeant-Major Morris.

I wish for two hundred pounds.

He was caught in the machinery… The company accepts no responsibility, but offers two hundred pounds.

A company representative arrives with tragic news: Herbert has died in a machinery accident. The company offers compensation—two hundred pounds.

Driven by grief, Mrs. White demands her husband use the paw to bring Herbert back.
Grief overwhelms the White family as they bury Herbert.
*Loud knocking*

What have we done?
The knocking stops. The door opens to reveal an empty road. Herbert is gone forever.
A slow, heavy knocking sounds at the door. Mr. White fears what has returned from the grave.
