Jude has been to many different places in California for her job. In the text, it says "In Studio City, she served cocktails at her birthday party of an aging game-show host" (Bennett 146). Jude has been working very hard and going to different cities to be able to pay for Reese's surgery.
Where has Jude been?
When Jude left for college, her mother was upset. In the story, it states "When Desiree Vignes waved at her daughter's bus from the terminal, she waited until the Greyhound disappeared around the corner to wipe the tears from her eyes" (Bennett 102) Jude departure from Mallard affected her mother, creating this void or sense of loneliness knowing that Jude is no longer there. Watching Jude leave could have stirred up Desiree's memories when she left Mallard.
