In 1857, 85 Indian soldiers were jailed for refusing to work for the British army. On May 10 of the same year, the Indians rebelled and captured the city of Delhi.
The Sepoy Mutiny was a large fighting between the Indian soldiers and the British. Unfortunately for the Indians, they could not unite together due to the lack of good leadership and split between Muslims, and Hindus.
As a result, the British took full, direct control and command over India in 1858.
