The Native Americans
When the Englishman heard there was new land they established the Virginia Company. The Virginia Company wanted to establish settlements in North America to claim more land and get more riches. They didn't know what was yet to come, the struggles they would face. The Englishmen had some of the best weapons and armor. They had steel Armour that only weighed 24 pounds.
The Illness
When they arrived at James Bay, they didn't know what they were getting into. They already were getting hot and dehydrated. They immediately started trying to find gold. They left their guns away from them to show the Native Americans that they are no harm. They had to train men who had never handled a gun before. They had many more hardships such as illnesses, and the native Americans attacking, They built a fort in 19 days using over 600 trees and they built it about an acre to the river bank.
The Success of Jamestown
The Native Americans had just been protecting their land and the Englishmen had taken over. They had skilled shooting skills with their bows and arrows. There was a little Native American girl who was named Pocahontas, she was helping on not having the entire Jamestown settlers from getting wiped out. She would tell her father not to take out the settlers and it is just so said that Pocahontas and John Smith were in a romantic relationship. Captain John Smith had asked for food from the Native Americans because they were running out of supplies so he offered these pretty shiny gems that the Native Americans became curious about.
The Jamestown settlers ended up running out of fresh water and food. They started drinking from the river. But, the river was salt water, which gave the settlers saltwater poisoning. They felt dehydrated. Because they ran out of food, they would eat the horses, cats, dogs, and corpses of the people that had died. One of the Captains had died and he was buried outside of the fort to show the Native Americans that they weren't scared. At the end of the sickness, there were 50 Englishmen and 13,000 Native Americans. There was this man who had gotten hit in the head and this settler tried to save this man by trying surgery in his head with this drilling tool.
In the fall of 1609, Captain John Smith went back to England to get more supplies. But, England was at war so he decided to help with the war and wouldn't return until 3 years later. Because Captain John Smith was gone the Native Americans decided to ambush the Englishmen. There are only 16 survivors by May 1610 when a supply ship comes. Jamestown asks the Native Americans about tobacco and the Jamestown settlers end up growing it which brings them to victory. They might not have found any gold but they found tobacco. We probably wouldn't have the United States if it wasn't for the Jamestown settlers and Barthmeowth Gasnauld.
