- in this story board, we will analyze how the theme of wealth and value builds over the course of the book, The Pearl. firstly, in the beginning, we can see the theme of wealth and value build when we are introduced to Kino and the Doctor. We see the contrasting lifestyles between Kino (who lives as a poor man on the coast of the ocean) and the Doctor (a rich man who lives in a large house and has many employees).we can see how their additudes and personalities differ. Kino, who is poor, is content and honest. He has empathy and he loves his family. The Doctor however, is shown as greedy, egoistical, and narcissistic. He refuses to treat poor people like Kino and isn't grateful for his surroundings.

- later, in the middle of the story, we can see how greed and jealousy consumes the town when they hear that Kino had found a great pearl. We see how his close friends (who are also poor) support him while rich people (like the preist and doctor) only want to take the pearl from Kino so they can have wealth for themselves. We can see how the theme is growing in the form of greed mainly from the townspeople, who want the pearl for themselves. We can also see how the dealers try to convince Kino that his pearl is bad, manipulating him into giving the pearl to him for a very small price. This shows how even the dealers, relatively rich people, want the pearl for themselves.

- Finally, at the end of the story, we can see the full development of the theme. We see how greed has completely overcome Kino, even making him hurt his family members (Juana) for the pearl's integrity. We also see how the townspeoples' greed has overflown, as they try to steal the pearl forcefully from him. We also see this theme at the end of the book, when Kino realizes that the pearl is valueless without his son (who dies). So, he finally throws the pearl into the ocean where he found it, accepting his current social class as a pearl diver. We see them becoming content with their lives again, but still changed by what has occurred.
