Hi class! Today we will be learning about the Haiti Revolution. Toussaint Louverture led this revolution as Haiti tried to get independence from the French. He led this because he was a former slave in Haiti so he wanted to abolish slavery, leading to him leading the slaves in their fight for independence. They fought for independence because they wanted to abolish slavery as the slaves were treated horribly.
What'd they do to get independence?

Great question! Louverture led a slave rebellion against the white population of Haiti which was so large that the Americans tried to help the white population shut the rebellion down.
What happened next?

Another awesome question! The rebellion eventually turned into a civil war that the slaves won, achieving their independence in 1783. Toussaint led the slave army to freedom by training them which helped them win the war. Once they gained independence, Toussaint became the dictator over the country after a battle to take over the country with Napoleons brother in law who was overthrown easily. Once Toussaint is dictator he abolishes slavery officially even though under Napoleons brother in law slavery was not used.
Wow! That was interesting!
