- Alex is talking to a man who lives in his apartment building and needs his plumbing fixed. Alex doesn't know yet, but his life is about to change for the worst. He is in for some tough times and he's going to have to take care of his sisters all by himself. He may never see his parents or brother again. The plumbing will be the least of his worries.
- CHAPTER 11
- Alex has to send his sister Briana away to a convent because he thinks it'll be better for her. He wants her to have more of a chance to survive, and it'll be easier in the convent, where they have a garden and animals. They never know if they'll see each other again, but they're hoping that they stay safe.
- CHAPTER 19
- Alex and his sister Julie went to 4 apartments in his building, finding food and other necessities for living. They filled trash bags and tried to find as many cans of food as they could.
- CHAPTER 19
- Alex and Julie get home to find that Briana had finally come home. They were all so excited, but now they have the issue of having to find more food for all three of them. They still have no sign of their parents and only have each other.
- After Bri had been missing for 2 days, Alex and Julie found her in the elevator of their apartment. As she had been going up to the 12th floor, the electricity went out and she passed away. They were now on their own and had to find a way out.
- Alex and Julie found a way out of New York City, getting on a bus to a college in Georgia. Hopefully, they'll have some success and find somewhere or someone to go to. Going with them is a nun from Julie's school who helped to get them on the bus.
