- After an argument, Heathcliff leaves Wuthering Heights and disappears into the moor.
- Catherine is heartbroken, but resolves to marry Mr. Linton, one of her friends.

- Catherine and her maid Ellen pack up their belongings and leave Wuthering Heights, going to Mr. Linton's Estate.
- After a few years, Ellen hears a knock on the door and goes to answer. She is shocked to discover it is Heathcliff.
- Heathcliff looks very changed, and he asks if he can talk to Catherine.
- Ellen brings him in to talk to Catherine and she is elated that he is back. She had given up hope on finding him, and had become quite sad.
