- There was a girl named SULEKHA, everyone in the village called her BHOLI or the simpleton. She fell off a cot when she was months old and damaged some part of her brain. At birth, she was very pretty and fair, but she got small pox at the age of 2.
- She was able to speak at the age of 5. But even then she stammered a lot. Everyone in the village made fun of her. She neither had good looks not intelligence
- Her father Ramlal was a Numberdar. he was told to send his daughter to school by Tehsildar. Then after talking bout this to his family, as a conclusion, they finally agreed to send BHOLi to school.
- BHOLI didn't want to go to school as she didn't know what it was and thought that she'd be sold like Lakshmi the cow in her house. she was scared that she would be sent that way
- On way to school, she thought that it would be more better than home as she was dressed properly and was bathed. So she was happy to go
- SCHOOL
- BHOLI was asked to sit in corner of classroom by her teacher, she couldn't understand what the teacher was saying to the girls but was fascinated o see the girls and the painting on the wall which reminded her of many things which she had seen across the village.
