  • HI! Today I'm going to explain and show the steps of Darwin's Theory of evolution through natural selection.
  • To begin, Overproduction.
  • OVERPRODUCTION
  • Overproduction is when a species will produce more offspring than will survive.
  • For example, these rabbits will have many large litters but only 1/10 babies will survive.
  • Next is....
  • COMPETITION
  • For example, deer and rabbits both eat berries, but there is a limited supply.
  • Competition, this is caused by the overpopulation of a species. Since there is so much of one species, the amount of resources cannot support them all. So, they must compete for survival.
  • Next is....
  • VARIATION
  • For example, some rabbits have brown fur whereas others have white.
  • Next is....
  • Variation, this is the variation between a species.
  • ADAPTATION
  • For example, a long time ago bunnies used to be black. However since the climate is too hot and black was causing their bodies to overheat, they adapted to being white/brown.
  • Adaptation, this is the process of a species changing to be better suited for their environment.
  • Next is....
  • NATURAL SELECTION
  • Natural Selection, this is the process of survival of the fittest. Offspring whom inherit a favorable survival trait will survive and reproduce. Therefore, giving its offspring the trait.
  • For example, rabbits with darker fur have a greater survival rate than those with white. This is due to the white rabbits being easy to see for predators in their environment.
  • And finally...
