- Exposition
- Seargent-Major Morris visited the white family to tell them about his adventures but Mr.White mentions a "monkey's paw" and Morris explains what it is. Sergeant-Major insists in burning the paw but Mr. White insists in keeping it, Morris gives up and gives the paw, warning them for it to be a sensible wish. He later left, and the white's laughed, for believing "such nonsense".

- Herbert asked his father to wish for two hundred pounds and suggested that the money would fall on top of him. When Mr.White was wishing, Herbert struck some impressive chords, then Mr.White screamed, his wife and Herbert went to check on him.

- Later, Mrs. White notices a well-dressed man, hesitant to enter, until finally deciding to go through the gates, Mr.White let's him in. The man tells them that Herbert was caught in the machinery but is in no pain, Mrs.White gets relived but then realizes that he means that Herbert died, she screams and Mr.White faints.
- Climax
- Ten days after burying Herbert, Mrs. White realizes that they can wish Herbert alive again, she pressures Mr.White to wish him alive. He wishes and then they hear knocks, Mrs.White rushes down the stairs to open the door. Before she can open the door...Mr.White wishes for Herbert to disappear. Mrs.White opens the door but finds nothing, she begins to cry and Mr.White comforts her.
- Falling Action
- As the consequence of the second wish, Mrs.White dies and Mr.White is left alone...no one to accompany him.
- Resolution
- After waiting so long...the consequence finally comes and kills Mr.White... the story of the White Family finally ends...
