- You’re going to be a teacher- why would you waste your time studying about relationships with students? You’re not there to be their friends. They need to understand that life doesn’t cater to them.

- The best way for me to teach kids is to get to know them! They don't have to like me, but they at least have to trust me to learn.

- I think it’s a waste of your time that you’re studying about racial differences, culture, poverty, and gender. There’s no place for this inschool. You’re going to be a teacher, not a social worker.

- Kids have social identities that are affected by racial, cultural, and economic differences. It impacts student performance. It helps me know who the students are to make sure I'm not excluding anyone.
- Things like economic problems distract learning, I need to know their limitations, what they believe in, what they can and cannot afford...

- Poverty is a choice. People just don’t want to work, and if you are living in poverty, it’s your own fault.

- Students don't chose to be poor, or go to poor schools. Even with a full-time job some families aren't making above the poverty line. That can effect what resources kids are exposed too.

- And some students are more disadvantaged than others, students need teachers that know their realities outside of the classroom too.
