This pan is heating up fast! I’ll just flip the sandwich with my fingers—
When the stove heats the metal pan, the heat travels through the metal by conduction - from the hot base to the cooler parts

In metals, free electrons "loose electrons" move faster when heated and collide with atoms making them vibrate. This transfers heat quickly through the metal to your hand since thermal energy always flows from a hotter region to a colder one.

Exactly! Plastic is an insulator which does not allow heat to pass through it. That's why utensils have wooden handles.
Plastic doesn't get hot like metals when I flip the sandwich.
Conduction is fast in metals due to free electrons. However, materials such as wood and plastic are insulators, so they prevent heat transfer and protect us from burns
