- It is forbidden!
- Chapter 2
- Equality has turned 15, and is now graduating so"the Council of Vocations came to give them their life Mandates"...(Rand 24). Equality was given the job of street sweeper instead of his original
- Chapter 2
- Equality found tunnel with the remains of the Unmentionable times. While Equality was in awe and International was afraid and exclaimed,"It is forbidden"(Rand 31). Equality in order to calm the nerves of International says,"The Council does not know of this hole, so it can't be forbidden"(Rand 31).
- Chapter 3
- Equality notices Liberty 5-3000, and names her the "Golden One"(Rand 41). At first he would just watch and admire her, but soon they would talk and the concept of the palace of mating would surface. Equality "thought that we would not let the Golden one be sent to the Palace of mating, and how to prevent it"(Rand 44). Showing his care for Liberty.
- Chapter 4
- During the night, Equality would think of the Saint of the Pyre. Who was punished by death for speaking the unspeakable word. Equality would recall that " of all the faces on the square who shrieked and screamed and spat curses upon them, theirs was the calmest happiest face"(Rand 50), and as the Saint of the Pyre burned it seemed he did not regret his actions.
- Equality has "discovered a new power of nature"(Rand 52). Through the copper wire and the metal of his knife Equality has unlocked electricity, a power source of the unmentionable times. The leads him to further question the ways of his society.
- The Golden one gives a name to Equality, and he is now known as "The Unconquered"(Rand 56). The Golden one as though an act of kindness gave water from her hand to Equality, who drank out of it. Though he does not remember drinking the water, he knows it disapeared.
