- " Marley was as dead as a door nail"
- "He was a tight-fisted hand at the grindstone Scrooge.!"
- "Bah... Humbug!"
- Bah... Humbug!
- Marley was dead, to begin with. There is no doubt whatever about that. The register of his burial was signed by the clergyman. the clerk, the undertaker and the chief mourner.
- “If they would rather die”, said Scrooge, “they had better die and decrease the surplus population.”
- Nobody ever stopped him in the streets to say, with gladsome looks, "My dear Scrooge how are you?"... no children asked him what o'clock, even the blind men's dog appeared to know him.
- “Meanwhile the fog and darkness thickened so.”
- " A merry Christmas, Uncle! God save you!" cried a cheerful voice. It was the voice of Scrooge's nephew, who came upon him so quickly that this was the intimation he had of his approach.
- "I wish to be left alone," said Scrooge " since you ask me what I wish, gentlemen, that is my answer. I can't afford to make idle people merry. I help to support the establishments I have mentioned"
