  • Nice to meet you, I am Annabel Lee!
  • Hi, nice to meet you!
  • *crying* My poor Annabel
  • The sickness ultimately took the life of Annabel Lee. Although she had left the world, the speaker still laid by her side. This symbolizes real love.
  • Many years ago, when Edgar and Annabel were young, they met in a kingdom by the sea. They fell in deep love with each other and were happy together.
  • One dark night, as Annabel was sleeping, she was hit with gusts of wind from the clouds which made her very sick. "That the wind came out of the cloud by night, Chilling and killing my Annabel Lee" (Poe Line 25). The description the writer uses makes readers able to picture the setting.

  • "And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride, In her sepulchre there by the sea— In her tomb by the sounding sea" (Lines 38-41). Even though Annabel Lee was not physically with Edgar. He still felt close to her spirit and their love never broke apart. This poem captures the themes of love and death.
  • Within the poem, the author constantly repeats the same lines "of the beautiful Annabel Lee." This further illustrates to readers just how much Edgar loves Annabel and how their love stood over anyone else's.
  • In the poem, the speaker mentions how even angels are jealous of their love. This exaggeration shows that the speaker is very obsessive over the love him and Annabel Lee shared. He states in lines 21 and 22 that "the angels, not half so happy in Heaven, Went envying her and [him]."
