Jo's father gets sick. So when her dad falls sick instead of begging her rich aunt for money she rather cuts off all her hair (her only pride) and sells it to get her mom a ticket to Washington to visit her husband.
Falling action
Laurie leaves to go work. When he returns home he confesses his love to jo. He proposed to her but she declines. She said that she didn't love him that way. After Laurie proposes had proposed to Jo she runs away to NYC to take a break. She takes German lessons from professor Bhaer.
Resolution
After jo learned that her little sister ( beth) was very sick she left new york to devote her time to take care of her dying sister. Professor Bhaer comes to her house on her invite to stay for 2 weeks.
On Bhaers last day he proposes to her. Jo's aunt Margaret died leaving plum field to her, she and Bhaer then turned it into a school for boys and girls.
