- While the colonies elected assemblies that made laws, only free, white, land-owning men had the privilege of voting.
- We are the elected assembly! We get to make decisions about the colonies.
- Well, that's just too bad, I am the governor elected by the King, I get final say!

- Back in the USA...
- This war defending the colonies sure did cost a bloody lot of money... they ought to help repay our debts. Hmmm... I know! I'll place taxes on them!
- How could our king do this to us? We don't even get representation in parliament to have a say in where our precious money goes!
- The Stamp Act- Passed in 1765, colonists tolerated paying taxes to assemblies, because they had a say in what their taxes went to.
- This is tyranny, the king can't tax each paper good!
