Storyboard Tekst

  • Mr Johnson, a married man (entrepreneur) who receives salary on commission (unstable income) and claims to want a personal loan for his son's Orthodontic treatment. Since it is a minor treatment, it is classified as a personal loan and not a medical loan,
  • It is my first time here, and I would like to apply for a personal loan!
  • The credit officer knows he has no choice but to go through with the process as there is a huge number of risks associated with not knowing the credit worthiness of the borrower.
  • However, the credit officer finds it difficult to assess whether it is acceptable to grant Mr Johnson the loan because he does not have a credit history. Therefore he has to assess his credit worthiness based on demographic data such as age, marital status, income, past education and employment, asset ownership documents and location. There are no other factors to consider.
  • The fact that he has to go through all of these hardcopy documents is extremely taxing on the credit officer, and he feels very stressed out and pressurised.
  • Even though its stressful, I have to perform credit analysis so that I know that Mr Johnson is borrowing the funds for a legal reason, has the ability to pay them back in time, and hence to not put the bank at risk.
  • The credit officer decides to grant Mr Johnson the loan since he has no suspicious behaviour in the last 6 months of his bank statements, has good character and is asking for the loan to fund his son's Orthodontist treatment. However, the credit officer also takes not that Mr Johnson is an entrepreneur and has an unstable income, but since he is asking for less than his net worth and the loan period is only 1 year, the credit officer still thinks it is acceptable.
  • I hope I'm not making a mistake...
  • On his way home from work, the credit officer is wondering whether he has made the right decision. He just wishes there was a way to know more about the behavioural habits of the client.
  • Did I make a mistake by accepting Mr Johnson's loan application? Could there be a chance that he is not who he says he is and is going to use the money for something other than his son's Orthodontist treatments?
  • Meanwhile at home, Mr Johnson celebrates his victory in tricking the poor credit officer. Since the credit officer did not have any access to his personal life, he did not know that Mr Johnson was going to use that money to place a bet on his favourite MMA fighter. He believes the returns will be more than enough to pay off his bank loan interest and buy a new car.
  • I managed to charm my way through and trick that gullible credit officer! HAHA!
  • Why did Dad use my Orthodontic treatment as an excuse to be a fraud? Does he even plan on paying for the treatment?
  • After 5 months, Mr Johnson had defaulted on the loan. The bank manager has called in a meeting with the credit officer in charge to reprimand him for being so guillable. Mr Johnson was not the only similar case. Many other clients have defaulted on their unsecured loans and many other credit officers have been reprimanded. The bank manager knows that something has to change in order for the bank to survive.
  • I am scolding him, but I know that these things happen very often in the traditional banking system.
