- Rainsford falls over the edge of a boat trying to grab his pipe. He strides through the water to survive the waves. After Rainsford gets through the water, he falls asleep on a rock.
- The Hunt
- After landing on Ship-Trap Island, Rainsford walks through the jungle and is met with a dead animal, which looks like it has been shot by a rifle. After walking a little longer, he comes across a huge, fancy palatial chateau, with two people. The people are General Zaroff and his assistant Ivan.
- The Trick
- General Zaroff reveals to Sanger Rainsford that he has been hunting for his entire life, and it got so boring, that he decided to invent a new animal. The new animal that the general speaks of are sailors that he leads to the island to hunt and kill them, hence the name "Ship-Trap Island". When Rainsford disagrees with General Zaroff, he himself becomes hunted.
- Victory
- After Sanger Rainsford refuses to hunt humans with General Zaroff, he becomes a victim himself, having the choice to be beaten to death or have a chance to survive the general. Rainsford sets up many traps, such as the Malay Mancatcher, the Burmese tiger pit, and a knife trick he learned in Uganda. One of the traps takes down Ivan, and another trap takes down a hound, but the general is still alive.
- After Rainsford sets up a trap that leaves Ivan dead, a huge chase breaks out. The hounds and General Zaroff chase after Rainsford, and then unexpectedly, Rainsford jumps into the water. General Zaroff thinks that Rainsford would rather end it all than being hunted and playing the game, but that is not the case.
- After Rainsford jumps off into the sea, General Zaroff goes back into his home, thinking that the game was over. He eats dinner, then returns to his bedroom, where he sees the dark figure of Rainsford, waiting for the general. General Zaroff congratulates Rainsford on winning the game, and decides that one of them will feed the hounds, and the other will sleep in the comfortable bed. Rainsford had his best sleep that night.
